After revolutionizing the office automation and telecom industry in India, Global Business Leader Dr. M launched Singapore Film Fund in 2010. Singapore Film Fund was created to set a new standard in the entertainment industry with an extra focus on socially conscious entertainment that promotes human values of unity, peace and love. Singapore Film Fund is recognized as one of the most important entertainment houses in the South-Asian region which focuses on a human-centric approach with all its entertainment projects. With an outstanding repertoire of innovative and socially engaging projects like ‘OMG!’, ‘Buddha’ and ‘Adi Shankaracharya’, Singapore Film Fund aims to create a variety of mainstream entertainment forms, predominantly films and tv-shows, that intend to have social impact in addition to great entertainment value.
In 2012, Global Business Leader Dr. M’s Singapore Film Fund co-produced OMG – Oh My God! with Viacom 18 Motion Pictures and others. Written and directed by Umesh Shukla, OMG! is a popular Indian Hindi language satirical comedy-drama film where a shopkeeper takes God to the court, after his shop is destroyed by an earthquake. The movie was a huge success at the box office and collected over US $ 1.5 million in revenues and was awarded the ‘Best Hindi Film Award’ by Institute for Research and Documentation in Social Sciences (IRDS) during the second IRDS Hindi Film Awards for social concern. OMG! also won the award for ‘Best Adapted Screenplay’ in 60th National Film Awards.
In 2013, Buddha – Rajaon Ka Raja (titled as Buddha – The King of Kings) was produced by Global Business Leader Dr. M. Buddha which is a historical drama and was first premiered on Zee TV and Doordarshan. With a total number of 55 engaging episodes, the series is based on the biography of the Prince Siddharta and recounts the story of how he became Gautama Buddha, the great Indian sage and founder of Buddhism. Himanshu Soni played the title role along with popular Bollywood actor Kabir Bedi, who also played a pivotal role in the series. As a testimony to his commitment to the serial, Dr. M personally engaged with several Buddhist leaders, including His Holiness the Dalai Lama to ensure that the magnum opus is a true rendition of the Buddhist faith and an ode to its Founder. So pervasive was the impact of these conversations that Dr. M also served as the Executive President of the World Buddhist Cultural Federation and the President of the prestigious Mahabodhi Society – one of the key societies preserving the Buddhist faith. Speaking on the relevance of the teachings of Buddha and Buddhism, Dr. M said, “Buddha has been a source of inspiration for millions of people across the globe. It`s not just in India. Many international projects have been made on Buddha. So, it`s a global subject now,”
Taking forward this legacy of Global Business Leader Dr. M, and in keeping with his commitment to the promotion of moral and social values , the Singapore Film Fund is also set to launch another interesting television series called ‘Sri Adi Shankaracharya’, a historical drama based on the life of Hindu saint Sri Adi Shankaracharya, who is credited with the revival of Hinduism in the 8th century. This serial is also a part of a larger series on saints of various faiths that the Singapore Film Fund seeks to bring to life.
